It’s afternoon, and Ylva is pacing restlessly while I finish editing some photos. The wind is howling softly through the old fireplace, John Williams is playing on the kitchen radio, and my cat Leiana is curled up on the sofa. Outside feels… less inviting, with rain against the windows. I usually love walking in the rain, but today my body wants the warm glow of the fire and a cup of mulled wine.
Lately, Ylva and I have shared the most beautiful frosty, sunny walks. I love the sound of frozen grass crunching beneath my boots, and she loves rolling through the frost. Since it’s hunting season, I hesitate to let her off leash, but she has so much energy that it tends to come out in less graceful ways.
Maybe today she can run free for a while in the surrounding forest. I can’t imagine many hunters being out on a rainy day like this. And perhaps, like most things in life, there’s always an upside if we choose to look for it.
